This workshop will focus on involving new members and developing new areas of activities including vibrio diseases, dengue fever, plague and others to be proposed. It will also seek to further develop existing GEO tasks, including health information systems, warning and prediction systems and end-to-end projects including malaria, meningitis and Lyme disease, following up the discussions that are taking place now in Pretoria at the GEO Work Plan Symposium. The outcomes of the workshop will contribute to developing the Health showcase at the GEO 2010 Ministerial Summit.

Join the IEEE Professional Communication Society (PCS) for its annual conference, “Communication in a Self-Service Society,” July 7 – 9, 2010 in Enschede, the Netherlands. See conference website for further information.

Web 2.0 technologies have become important sources of information about almost every conceivable engineering-related topic. The roles of information creator and information user are becoming interchangeable. This raises important questions: What are the social and economic implications of the self-service world? Who will profit, and who runs the risk of being excluded? What are the consequences of the “digital divide” if everyone is expected to “help themselves?” How can engineers and engineering communicators support the development of self-service environments that make sense and empower the public to put them to good use?

Come join us to explore questions and issues about the intriguing ways social network structures are changing the way we communicate, learn, do business, and conduct research. Accommodation options include very affordable, on-campus lodging and “Early Bird” registration is now open until May 1, 2010. Hurry to take advantage of these cost savings! For more information,
