This one and one-half day Workshop is focused on the User Interface between applications and information within the context of the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS). It will focus on issues of Biodiversity and Energy in the Arctic Region and the impact of Climate Change and Variability. It is one of an ongoing series of IEEE-sponsored regional meetings across the globe in support of GEOSS and will provide an overview of the GEOSS activities sponsored by both the Architecture and Data Committee and the User Interface Committee of GEOSS.
The format of the Science and Modeling workshop follows those of the series of successful Architecture workshops organized by IEEE and focused on the overarching theme of “The User and the GEOSS Architecture”. The science workshop will include both scientific input on large scale coupled environmental models and educational components on the impact and importance of models on GEOSS benefit areas. A breakout session will provide time for in-depth discussions among attendees on the most critical science and modeling issues to be resolved in large scale coupled modeling and data assimilation.
In summary, the workshop is a forum for users to interact with technologists to address the benefits and challenges of an advanced global system of systems providing earth observing data and information for the benefits of society.
